After a long gap, here I come with a healthy yet tasty recipe for our babies who do many tantrums before finishing his/her meal.
Today, I am gonna share a recipe which you can use as a side dish for idli/dosa. I hope your child will love this chutney and ask for more idli/dosa.
Chow chow (chayote) – half
Onion – 1 chopped
Tomato – 1 chopped
Garlic – 2 or 3 cloves
Tamarind – little amount (optional)
Urad dhal – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 10 to 15
Oil – 1tbsp
Mustard – 1tsp
Asafoetida – 2 pinch
Take half a chayote and remove the seed in it. Now, peel the skin of it before cut it into small pieces.
Now, heat a pan and pour oil in it. Add urad dhal and fry it. Once it becomes golden brown, add the chopped onion and garlic into it and saute until the onion becomes soft. Then add chayote, small ball sized tamarind for tangy taste and curry leaves and saute for 2minutes.
Now, you can add the chopped/mashed tomatoes and saute for a minute. Low the flame and close the pan with a lid. Wait until the tomatoes become mushy in texture.
Once it is done, off the flame and let the mixture cools completely. Now, you can put this into a mixer jar and grind into a fine paste. Add a little amount of water if needed to attain soft texture.
In addition to this, you can temper the chutney for added taste. For tempering, pour a teaspoon of oil into a tadka pan and add few mustard seeds. Once mustard starts sputtering, add asafoetida and off the flame. Pour this into the chutney. That’s it. Chow chow chutney is ready to serve for your little one with idli/dosa.
Hi Folks! The recipe am gonna share is a baby food yet not a tasty food for adults as I didn’t add salt and other spices for flavoring.
You can give this food to babies who attained 6 months or 180 days old but in a very soft and creamy texture. Also, you should start with 2 or 3 tablespoons max if your baby has completed his/her half year recently. Moreover, you can change the measurement according to your baby’s age. Before introducing food to your baby, it is always recommended to consult your paeditrician who will say when and what should you give to your little one.
Now, coming to the recipe…
Batter – 3 tbsp
Onion – 1/2
Tomato – 1
Ghee – 1 tsp
Sesame/Gingelly Oil – 1 tbsp
Firstly, take one cup of batter which should not be in sour taste. To attain this, you can grind the batter(rice and Urad dhal mixture) in the previous day night and use it for next day morning. This batter is good to use as it might got fermented somewhat.
Now, apply ghee and pour 3 or 4 tablespoons of batter to the plate in a Idli Cooker or in a cup and make sure you are boiling this by steaming.
On the other hand, finely chop the onion and tomato. Now, heat oil in a kadai (frying pan) and add the chopped onion into it. Make sure the vessel is in a high flame while doing it. Now, saute for 2 minutes and simmer the stove. Once the onion slightly turns golden color, add the tomatoes into it. Now, saute for a minute and wait until your tomatoes get mushy. Once you see the oil separates, you can turn off the flame.
Now, let the mixture cool and grind it into a soft paste without any lumps in it. Now it is ready to serve. If you want to add breastmilk into the paste to make it liquified, you can add some.

Often, many questions raise into my mind whether I am giving him protein enriched food which is very significant at this growing stage. Also, I doubted myself many a time whether I am giving him the best in everything either from my caring or from the food I feed him.
With these n number of questions, I came to a conclusion that no one is best in the world and the word “Best”cannot be measured by comparing one with other. Instead, it can be obtained by continuous practice and the consistency which we maintain in the long run. Hence, I will give “my best” to my child who is wholeheartedly trusting me blindly without any knowledge about my decisions. And that’s why I should give my time more to that munchkin who needs that pampering now.
To test myself, I am gonna post the recipes for babies who completed 6 months old and started solids. This will be helpful for me to try different recipes daily cautiously as I become a lazy goose sometimes.
