Mini Idli and Onion,Tomato Thokku

Hi Folks! The recipe am gonna share is a baby food yet not a tasty food for adults as I didn’t add salt and other spices for flavoring.

You can give this food to babies who attained 6 months or 180 days old but in a very soft and creamy texture. Also, you should start with 2 or 3 tablespoons max if your baby has completed his/her half year recently. Moreover, you can change the measurement according to your baby’s age. Before introducing food to your baby, it is always recommended to consult your paeditrician who will say when and what should you give to your little one.

Ingredients

  1. Batter – 3 tbsp
  2. Onion – 1/2
  3. Tomato – 1
  4. Ghee – 1 tsp
  5. Sesame/Gingelly Oil – 1 tbsp

Procedure

Firstly, take one cup of batter which should not be in sour taste. To attain this, you can grind the batter(rice and Urad dhal mixture) in the previous day night and use it for next day morning. This batter is good to use as it might got fermented somewhat.

Now, apply ghee and pour 3 or 4 tablespoons of batter to the plate in a Idli Cooker or in a cup and make sure you are boiling this by steaming.

On the other hand, finely chop the onion and tomato. Now, heat oil in a kadai (frying pan) and add the chopped onion into it. Make sure the vessel is in a high flame while doing it. Now, saute for 2 minutes and simmer the stove. Once the onion slightly turns golden color, add the tomatoes into it. Now, saute for a minute and wait until your tomatoes get mushy. Once you see the oil separates, you can turn off the flame.

Now, let the mixture cool and grind it into a soft paste without any lumps in it. Now it is ready to serve. If you want to add breastmilk into the paste to make it liquified, you can add some.

Remember!

Ensure that you do not add salt in food as babies under one year of age do not need salt if you are frequently feeding them with breast milk or formula milk. We will discuss on this topic little much deeper on another day.

Eggs! The most preferred food by humans especially, hen eggs. Also, few people would like to take Omega-3-enriched eggs. What if we consume eggs? For years, people have a belief that Egg yolks are not advisable to heart patients as they contain fat. Many people argued whether the egg is a vegetarian or non-vegetarian food.

But, why after these many debates, beliefs & controversies, people love eggs?

In simple words, there are mainly two reasons behind this.

  1. The egg is a simple food from which we can attain n number of nutrition.

In general, Egg whites are good for both healthy & unhealthy humans. Nevertheless, we should not separate the health benefits of the egg as egg white & egg yolk. The entire egg contains almost all the nutrition & calories our body needs. But what matters here is the amount of consumption. Yes! One can eat three eggs per day without any anxiety.

Coming to the health benefits, Egg white is rich in protein & the egg yolk has cholesterol. When the food cholesterol comes, some people feel like, “Oh, No! Cholesterol is bad for health”. Here, your perception is wrong. According to scientists, Cholesterol plays a significant role in humans as it is a structural molecule that your cell membrane requires. The yolks contain HDL(High-Density Lipoprotein), which is good cholesterol when compared to LDL, the bad cholesterol. The egg yolk has this HDL a lot. Now, why the egg is a vegetarian food?

Technically, people who eat animal flesh are non-vegetarian but the egg doesn’t contain animal flesh or muscle tissues. It includes only reproductive tissues. And so, a vegetarian can eat eggs, but a vegan should not. According to the vegan concept, not only animal flesh but also the products obtained from animals should not be consumed.
